What We Offer
Just outside our fence, we have free public gardens that are maintained by our garden plot holders as a way to give back to the community: public vegetable gardens, an herb garden, a 45-fruit-tree forest garden, berry bushes along the fence, and a strawberry garden. Every garden outside the fence is public and inside the fence is private. Come harvest what you like from the public gardens!
If you live within 1.5 miles of the garden, you can qualify to get a plot of your own! Just contact us at email@example.com or (202) 670-5459 to get on the waiting list. Plots are available for a yearly membership fee of $50. Contact us to see if you qualify for a free plot. Preference will be given to long-term and low-income residents.
To make sure the garden keeps growing, every plot holder will also be asked to spend 2 hours a month supporting the maintenance of the public gardens.
Don’t qualify for a personal plot? Don’t worry! You are always welcome to share the fruits, herbs, and vegetables from our public plots and orchard.
We host fun and educational events every month during the main growing season. Please email us to join our email list or check out bulletin board at the Kenyon/Park View entrance of our garden.
Free CSA program
We are attempting to start a gleaning program of all our extra food in the hopes of delivering a share to our neighbors in need.
If an organization or person is in need of tools, email us a request and we’ll see what we can do.
Private home garden consultation
Want help building a small garden at your house? Wangari Gardens volunteers give free consultations to help build your home garden.
Wangari Gardens Cookbook
Our very own Kenneth Moore put together our first Wangari Gardens cookbook (pdf). These are all recipes from our own gardeners. Please enjoy and share!
