As a plotholder at Wangari you get access to a private garden plot and a variety of other resources of the garden including water, seeds, tools, soil, etc.  To make the garden function you have a few responsibilities as well. The responsibilities are:

  • To garden in your plot and maintain it and the area around it;
  • To attend your team’s work days and lead one work day per season;
  • To follow the rules of the garden; and
  • To pay dues (if you are able).

We are a community and what happens in one plot–weeds going to seed, pests, etc–can affect your plot neighbors. Also, there are a large number of people waiting for a plot so we want to make sure each plot holder is using their plot. To maintain your plot, you must:

  • Garden in your plot. All plots must be planted by April 15, or two weeks after your are first offered the plot if you are joining mid season.
  • Control weeds.  You must ensure your plot and the aisles surrounding it do not have an unreasonable number of weeds, and particularly that no weeds are going to seed.  At the end of the season to prevent weeds plant a cover crop or cover your plot with cardboard to prevent weeds.
  • Attend work days. Once a month, you must attend your team’s work day–details are provided to plot holders at the beginning of each season.

Are you a plot holder? Don’t forget to Pay Your Dues!
